after rain
silvery tracks
on cabbage leaves

rock reflections
in a still pool -
the rustle of leaves

winter sky
the crow's pale eyes
stare at me

awakening
to birdsong -
then kookaburras

on the rock
curved striations -
an ant stumbles

she-oak needles
raindrops cling
in glistening rows

About the Poet -- Sue Mill lives in Australia, and writes about the things she sees around her. Some of her haiku are very Australian, but others are universal. She has been writing haiku for about seven years. Her first publication was in Mainichi Daily News in 1994. Since then she has been published in eight other countries, was runner up in the first World Haiku Club competition, and was third in the 5th International Shiki Salon haiku competition. With her husband, she traveled for six months in Europe with a baby and a toddler, then traveled around Australia in a caravan, and later the family lived on a trimaran for three and a half years. It was after she became more settled that she took up writing. She progressed through short story writing and free verse to haiku. She is currently involved with the newly formed Australian Haiku Society, HaikuOz, as Publications Officer.
