summer storm
thunder follows lightning
across the valley

home game
moving my chair
to the other team's side

deep puddle -
camellia petals
cupping raindrops

early summer
the water still too cold
to bear

cold moonlight
the sound of her breath
from the other room

leaping
from my hands
my daughter's kite

warm breeze
a young sumac
fans itself

moving deeper
into the woods -
barbed wire fence

Tien'anmen square
out of the darkness
the flutter of kites

just before
the wave's slow curl
pelicans

About the Poet -- Linda Robeck has been writing poetry in various forms for as long as she can remember. Intent on becoming a writer, she detoured into aerospace engineering for a few years after the excitement of the Viking landing on Mars in 1976 inspired her to focus on the stars. After two college degrees in Aerospace Engineering, she went to work for NASA. The pinnacle of her "rocket scientist" career involved building the wildly successful Mars Pathfinder spacecraft that landed on Mars in 1997. This brought her aerospace career full circle, back to the landing on Mars that had originally inspired her interest in space. She promptly retired from the space business and moved back home to New England with her husband. Now working full time as a writer, she's got one novel well under way and her return to poetry has already found her work in publications such as Frogpond, Modern Haiku, Mayfly, Acorn, and others.
