first warm Sunday—
even the whirligig beetles
are turning handsprings!

the emerald hour—
grass greener, dog piss craters
softer somehow

first warm day of spring—
I shave my beard down to
a less grey goatee

yakky dachshund's bark—
louder, more shrill reflected
off the propane tanks
