horizontal bar

open birdcage
an old sycamore
fills with song

cactus spines
the prickly sensation
down my back

horizon —
beach grass flattened
in the wind

snowfall
the forest fades
into silence

misty trail
the crunch of pine cones
underfoot

a mosquito
skitters up my window
treetops sway

shower past
a mantis glistens
on the garden wall

hill crest
the slow of traffic
at the red maple

bare branches
everyone’s hair
smells of smoke

first light
mist stirs in the
pine barrens
