walking alone —
fog separates the upper bough
from the lower

the sound of breaking waves
on a moonless night
—distant friend

saplings bend in the wind —
children under their boughs
play hokey-pokey

summer twilight :
licking the line between
chocolate and vanilla

daffodils at the market —
I have forgotten
Mama’s yahrzeit

in my bath
my tears
are cleaner!
