february earth—
returning home all alone
from the vet's office

 

MARCH
Flight

over-water flight
a slight bend in the left V
of returning geese

 

APRIL
Flowers

first buttercups
there, but only an inch
above ground level

 

MAY
Land

central oregon—
flat-bottom clouds spread out
over the cheat grass

 

JUNE
New Life

a mother
crossing the road behind
her baby quail

 

JULY
Animals

heat lightning—
tiger kittens roll over
on the carpet

 

AUGUST
Time

heat wave
now she calls high tea time—
iced tea time

 

SEPTEMBER
Water

autumn ocean
unbleached pieces
of driftwood

 

OCTOBER
Loss

middle of nowhere
autumn leaves blow across
the county line

 

NOVEMBER
Aquatic Life

animation
under a thin layer of ice
great koi

Family

snow sledding—
so many clothes the toddler
resembles a penguin
