Sky

new year's day
soaring through the cirrus
a mosaic of kites

 

FEBRUARY
Death

a pale dawn
a dead jellyfish
the color of sky

 

MARCH
Flight

lake mist—
through it the cries of
the last migratory birds

 

APRIL
Flowers

sketching wild flowers
the scent of grass—
in my crayons

 

MAY
Land

waterlogged land
amidst the cattails
— water snakes

 

JUNE
New Life

ebb tide
in every little pool
a baby crab

 

JULY
Animals

morning rain—
in with the news paper
the first tiny frog

 

AUGUST
Time

old sundial
now tilting sideways
shadows at nine

 

SEPTEMBER
Water

sweet mangoes
on the canal bank
the splash of naked children

 

OCTOBER
Loss

festival of lights
the stars all lost
in a volley of fireworks

 

NOVEMBER
Aquatic Life

fish jump up
in the soft washing of the lake
candle light dinner

 

DECEMBER
Family

christmas day
my nursing home family
exchanges presents
