one hundred acres
not nearly enough—

New Life

pulling weeds—
discovering a cache
of turtle eggs

Animals

the dog's tail
between his legs—
fireworks

Time

the first squash
ready for picking—
my watch runs down

Water

finally the rain
has given up—
first day of school

Loss

letter from home—
trees shedding
the last of their leaves

refusing to eat
the pet turkey after all—
