Sky

This blue sky
lemons and oranges
dropping from the trees.

 

FEBRUARY
Death

waiting for spring—
beneath this rose bush
a daughter's ashes

 

MARCH
Flight

an owl swoops
the moon watches
from a distance

 

APRIL
Flowers

sharp spines erect
field thistle blooms
by the roadside

 

MAY
Land

pinelands
a scent of vanilla
as i hike the trail

 

JUNE
New Life

abandoned building
white owl pellets fresh
beneath this roost

 

JULY
Animals

fishing
the old dog rests by
my bait bucket

 

AUGUST
Time

insomnia
I sip cups of chamomile
through the long night

 

SEPTEMBER
Water

half moon
transparent moon jelly
floats in the water

 

OCTOBER
Loss

listen
now only the rustle
of autumn leaves

 

NOVEMBER
Aquatic Life

shed shell
a lady crab's carapace
washes ashore

 

DECEMBER
Family

dreaming
my father holds
his grandson
