Sky

darkened sky—
the small bird
disappears inside a chimney

FEBRUARY
Death

between gloved fingers—
oil-slicked feathers
still

MARCH
Flight

steamy window—
nose prints follow
the shadow's flight

APRIL
Flowers

out of order—
on a small table
daffodills bloom

MAY
Land

chilled fingers—
the park's flower beds
freshly sowed

JUNE
New Life

spring snow—
the new plants
wrapped in canvas

JULY
Animals

varicoloured sunset—
fuzzy baby swans
follow the ripple

AUGUST
Time

1:17 a.m.
backhoes still digging

SEPTEMBER
Water

sudden downpour—
hot fudge trickles
down her chin

OCTOBER
Loss

missing—
a tattered flag flaps
from old army boots

NOVEMBER
Aquatic Life

echoed laughter—
his first catch
flops over the side

DECEMBER
Family

father-son day—
mom helps
bait his hook
