Haiku for the twelve months of the year
from around the world.

Poet:     an'ya               Region:     Oregon, Pacific Northwest, USA

January

winter storm
you call from the cell phone --
i offer up prayers

February

February --
using the sled hill
just in case

March

sloshing through mud
to admire skunk cabbage
before its aroma

April

taking its time -
that first banana slug
crosses the walk

May

maypole day -
weeping willow leaves furl
about their limb

June

june solstice -
the peacock takes forever
to open its tail

July

by the sea . . .
my dreams audible
in a windchime

August

drought year --
the redhead's freckles
doubled by august

September

September labor pains --
my birthday, but the baby
waits for her own

October

all soul's eve --
a black mitten rings
the doorbell

November

bursting so often
they almost intersect -
meteors

December

melted snow --
in between storms
a child is born !
