Haiku for the twelve months of the year
from around the world.

Poet:     Victor P. Gendrano     Region:     Southern California, Western USA

January

end of winter
the maple trees still wear
some golden leaves

February

cloudy morning
mounds of mushrooms appear
in the rain-soaked lawn

March

in dark pantry
the onions start to sprout
spring advent

April

april morning
the birds' noise heralds
ripening loquats

May

passing through
painted lady butterflies
from south of border

June

rite of summer
jacaranda blooms bluer
than the sky

July

bougainvilleas bloom
under the summer sun
children’s laughter

August

two-faced apple
one side good the other rotten
great pretender

September

end of summer
the echoes of laughter
in her daughter’s room

October

a ground orchid greets
the autumn morning
favorite teacher

November

autumn advent
the gardenia’s fragrance
scatters in the wind

December

frosty December
my backyard lemon tree
still bears golden yields
