Haiku for the twelve months of the year
from around the world.

Poet:     Susumu Takiguchi (Ryuseki)       Region:     Oxford, England, UK

January

turning orange,
through bonfire smoke --
the first sunrise

February

sudden gust
chilly on my face --
old silk tie

March

spring snow --
light as a teenager's
first make-up

April

cherry blossom --
I share with bumblebees
the raining perfume

May

fragrant summer wind --
I pick the leftovers after
the guests have gone

June

half way through
the lecture on haiku --
forty winks

July

uphill --
mayflies overtake
my footsteps

August

nimbus clouds floating --
summer field where the nunnery
once stood

September

a lone goose
warms his tired wings --
Indian summer

October

overnight --
little spiders with silky web
covered the autumn field

November

winter gale --
chasing large leaves,
a small leaf

December

away from the crowd
walking in the withered field -
yes, better off alone
