CHARLES V. HAYDEN

Dawn

At dawn, the untested sun
teases the desolate sky
with her first rays of
light, like two virgins
fondling each other with
breathless anticipation
of what the next few
moments will bring.

The Room In My Heart

You walked into the room
in my heart and found a
gold wedding band,
tear stained photographs,
and pieces of old love
letters lying on the
floor. You lovingly
gathered them in your
arms and took them away,
now the room is reserved
for you.

Winter Wind

The winter wind wages war against
the Fall, attacking Her camouflaged
leaves, drying them up and shaking
them until they fall like tiny
corpses to a cold battlefield.
