Filmmaker Statement

I got tired of writing haunted house movies, so I wrote a haunted house movie. For the past five years I’ve worked in the studio system as a horror writer. And as much as I love the genre, there’s always a moment in the writing process where I want to jump the tracks and let the characters in on the movie they’re trapped inside of. I had this thought I couldn't get rid of. Wouldn't it save everyone lot of trouble if "the realtor told them the house was haunted.” Which become the opening line of the short story where Every House is Haunted began. And then knowing this information, what if the couple chose to move in anyway? That was intriguing to me. Who would those people be? And the answer to that question really lined up with my experience during the pandemic where we all saw the lengths that people would go to avoid the underlying problems in their lives, their relationships, their world.
