Filmmaker Statement

A Will to Fly Away is a film about Ratri's compulsion in living her life with her husband. The film is not about love but an identity crisis or imprisonment of a human being, namely Inggit as a point of view in bringing the story in this film. Most of the film is set inside the house. Home for common perception has meaning as a place to go home, a gathering of warmth, and a safe zone, but how it all disappeared and turned out as if it were a prison for Inggit. Home is not always a place to live, but rather a place that invites comfort and freedom for us. Inggit tries to gain freedom from her imprisonment which she initially feels lost hope but in the end she tries to find. Perhaps we've all been to the point where we feel our freedom has been taken away, and look for ways to come home to the freedom we seek or once had. Inggit could be us.
