Filmmaker Statement

I became a multi-organ transplant recipient and cancer survivor by the age of four years old. I've spent most of my teenage years questioning my own desirability. As You Are depicts radical, disabled queer love that hasn't been given the voice to be called love before, so it must scream ten times louder than the rest. I hope to show people who've never seen their bodies and their stories reflected back at them that they're worthy of being seen. The film reflects the way I had always wanted my body, and the bodies of those who looked like me, to be treated: with tenderness, love, and acceptance not despite its differences, but because of them. It is my intention to make people recognize the fact that they may have never seen disabled love or queer love depicted on screen and I want them to come away with a hunger to learn more.
