Filmmaker Statement

With Before Dawn, I set out to explore a side of San Francisco that few ever see—the hours before the sun rises. While the city sleeps, dedicated workers get a jumpstart on the day. Bakers work in rhythm to prepare the day's bread while a coffee roaster prepares the daily batch of coffee beans in a meditative morning ritual. In these early morning hours, the commotion of the city fades away, revealing pensive rhythms and routines.
