“Behind The Eyes”
Behind The Eyes is a short documentary that follows Patryk, a 24-year-old blind pianist, philologist, and philosopher as he overcomes the obstacles of pursuing his dreams during the COVID-19 pandemic.
As a filmmaker, I explore the visually-driven world. Yet, encounters with the blind community exposed a deep rift between the sighted and visually impaired. This ignited my curiosity, leading me to exploration of visually impaired people's perspective. Their unique worldview left me moved and astounded.Humans heavily rely on sight, but the blind adapt through neuroplasticity. Studies show they develop enhanced auditory and tactile perception.
Blind individuals closely observe their surroundings, exploring objects through smell, taste, and touch. This heightened awareness forges a fascinating connection with the environment. In contrast, sighted individuals often suffer sensory overload due to excessive visual input, overlooking details.Working with the blind community taught me to appreciate the complexity of human experience beyond the visual. It's a reminder that we can learn much from those with different perspectives.
