Filmmaker Statement

When the idea of Big Dog came into view, I instantly felt drawn to it. It deeply aligned with the stories I most want to tell. Previously, being a student of psychology, I have developed an added awareness of human behaviour and with this, I have found lots of cinematic inspiration in seemingly mundane or ordinary environments. Having spent lots of time visiting friends at universities across the UK, I came to realise that there was potential to draw attention to the biggest contradiction at university – a place that wants you to grow up and be responsible also fosters a carelessness and immaturity. Different from my plot-heavy debut short film, The Sargent, I wanted to bring back the focus to the characters and see how they operate within their fairly chaotic environment. I was very lucky to work with an amazing and talented cast and crew, and I will always be grateful for their positive energy and hard work in making this film.
