Filmmaker Statement

After a bad film school experience that left me eager to start my own project, I went to Medellín, Colombia to visit my mother and started planning a story that I could feasibly make a short film about given my limited resources. I thought of a real story that had happened to my mother in Medellín a few years back. It could be filmed in the same neighborhood where the event took place, it wasn’t an overly complicated narrative, the project fit within the means of my resources, and most important of all, my mother had the willingness and time to portray herself. I wanted the film to intimately capture the perspective of my mothers character, her confusion, shock and hysteria, and create an experience that the audience would feel.
