Filmmaker Statement

One of the things I felt strongly about in the conceptualization of this project is that I wanted this film to have its own language, both tonally and structurally. I understand that I could've made a film that dismantles Black stereotypes as a launch point, but I was not interested in making a film that was too "on the nose" because I have seen films where I felt like I was being overwhelmed with information or traumatized with fictitious attempts of actual occurrences. I wanted to make a film that allows audience to attach to a story, a line or movements that resonate with them. But most importantly, I wanted to make a film that best shows my people - Black people - existing as we do, laughing as we do, dancing as we do, reflecting as we do and love as we do.
