Filmmaker Statement

As the director of "Blue Baby Blue," a short film inspired by the classic short story "The Yellow Wallpaper," I am thrilled to present a film that aims to tackle the important issue of postpartum depression and related mental illness through the lens of a thriller genre. While "The Yellow Wallpaper" is a classic work of literature that delves into the struggles of a woman with mental illness, I wanted to take this story and use it as a jumping-off point to explore postpartum depression in a new and unique way. By using the thriller genre, I aimed to create a cinematic experience that would not only entertain audiences but also raise awareness about this important social issue. Through the use of suspense, mystery, and visual storytelling, I aimed to keep audiences on the edge of their seats while also shining a light on the often-ignored issue of postpartum depression. By packaging this social commentary into a thrilling and engaging narrative, I hope to reach a wider audience and spark important conversations about this important issue. Ultimately, my goal with "Blue Baby Blue" is to create a film that not only entertains but also educates and inspires. By raising awareness about postpartum depression and the struggles that new mothers face, I believe that we can help to break down the stigma surrounding mental illness and create a more supportive and empathetic society.
