Smartphones are a remarkable, futuristic technology that are mostly used to show us targeted ads for fast fashion and food delivery apps. It got me to thinking: what if the incredible tech of Ex Machina, Her, or Blade Runner 2049 was built by Amazon, Apple, or Google? Surely these incredible machines, instead of realizing their full potential, would simply be used to collect more of our data and sell us more crap we don’t need. Who needs to be imprisoned by the Matrix robots when we are already in thrall to our capitalist overlords?
