Filmmaker Statement

Underneath the aesthetic that pays tribute to the pioneers of the neon-noir, Cafe Racer is truly an exploration of grief. After traveling to Japan and studying Japanese for nearly 4 years now, I worked closely with several Japanese-Canadian creatives and over 10 translators to ensure the authenticity of Japanese-Canadian culture and language. I truly believe film is a beautiful medium to bring people together and understand each other. When I undertook the journey to create this film, I wanted to use Cafe Racer as an opportunity to bridge the gap between the Asian & North American film communities, aligning the two cultures with one universal theme.
