"CAPTCHA" speaks to a feeling that many of us experience at one point or another – and that is one of questioning our own nature, or reality. What is our purpose here? How do we know what’s real and what isn’t? Do these questions even really matter? I believe these thoughts are even more pervasive given how digitized our lives have become, and how much time we all spend online. It’s no coincidence that Daniel’s crisis in the film is triggered after an entire day of working from home on his computer. While these notions can feel heavy, and make for great science-fiction fodder, my goal was to undercut these themes with absurd humour. The comedy in the film comes from just how seriously Daniel takes his silly predicament, and the lengths he'll go to uncover the truth. After all, when the weight of an existential crisis gets to be too much, perhaps the best we can do is try to laugh it off.
