Filmmaker Statement

I created this film at Red Rover animation studios in 1998. I was 18 years old. This was the first animated short I ever made, and it was made entirely thanks to Linzi Knight (Former olympic gymnast and wife to my boss and mentor Andy Knight) Letting me use her computer - the one computer in the office that had a copy of Specular InfiniD. She also provided invaluable story advice halfway through the film which took the story off the chessboard and into the history of our two main characters. My mom loved this film. My mom, Linzi, Andy, and the studio Red Rover where I got my start are all gone from this world now. But I'd like to share this film which was made when we were all here at the same time, and the animation business was carefree enough to let an 18 year old gopher explore to his creative hearts content. I hope you enjoy the film which I simply titled "Chess"
