I sit in my room, wondering what to write, three months after being picture-locked and having screened Children on Earth Day (to which more people showed than I expected!). On one hand, we were able to accomplish the net-zero footprint production that I set out to do, which gave me joy and satisfaction. On the other, my issues, fears and soul had been captured in a film that if audiences didn’t like, I felt would destroy me. I was terrified during the screening…But it was all worth it when one environmental teen activists came to the screening with her family. Her grandma cried and, Isa (the teen) came up to me and told me that somehow this film captured the insides of her heart and mind. All that she felt. She could now show it to her mom and she would finally see how she feels. I think rather than a written statement, the event with Isa, the viewer’s interpretation and essence of storytelling -the kind I want to continue making-, captures beautifully what I set out to do.
