“Consumed” is like looking through a window into the non-linear pattern that I processed the question of consumerism: is it helpful to better our survival or a method of controlling our mindsets? We walk down the street and are bombarded with hundreds of messages telling us our worth can only be measured by the products those messages push and then, in not achieving what billboards and advertisements command, we wonder why we are depressed. We rush to buy trending clothes, the latest phone model, those limited edition sneakers and in the same breath cry about climate change. And while this is not a film about that impending doom, I do hope that in watching Consumed one can reflect on whether or not we are purchasing from a business, or if a business is purchasing us and the effects corporations have on the very fabric of your makeup with each and every dollar spent. Perhaps the answer to that is more insidious than we could have imagined.
