This started as a challenge for an upcoming single from The Impliers: could I make a music video in a single day, with no budget and no crew? I started by filming myself performing each instrument of our single Country Girl, with the idea to weave it together with footage of fake teeth singing, projected onto the wall of an alley. I invited a friend to watch the gear, and another brought her grandmother’s dentures to add to the scene. We placed a landline phone next to the projection, and as we wrapped, I caught candid footage of my friend dancing in front of the visuals. She pointed out the alley’s security cameras and joked that we’d created a really weird scene for whoever was watching. I caught some B-roll of the cameras. In the edit, the cameras felt strangely alive, and a narrative came to mind.
