During the Covid-19 pandemic, we found ourselves trapped in isolation, losing our sense of time, unaware if we'd ever get out of this repetitive way of life and return to something normal and familiar. We set our sights on making a film that really explored the ideas and visual style we grew up loving: 1980s lo-fi sci-fi. Movies like “The Fly,” “Blood Simple,” and “The Terminator.” We had a lot of old tech and furniture gathering dust in our garages and then by some miracle, we'd be walking in our neighborhood and find a trove of great looking stuff someone left out to be trashed. By taking apart old computers, stereos, and video game consoles, we found the look of our film and ultimately the look of the time machine at the center of the story. As brothers, we made movies together as kids, so “Coyle” is just an extension of that. Only now we're doing something a little more ambitious than holding action figures in front of our parents' home video camera. :)
