I was often urged to record our Nuxalk elders before their knowledge was lost, but I questioned whether video could truly hold the depth and spirit of oral storytelling. Can a recording replace the experience of being on the land, hearing a story passed from mouth to ear, shaped by breath and presence? CRY ROCK explores these tensions, honouring the power of oral tradition while asking what’s lost and what might still be preserved when we capture stories on film.
