Filmmaker Statement

This film exists because Josie became obsessed with the idea of a girl making friends with a stuffed pet. We don’t know where this obsession came from. It’s probably better not to ask. It’s a film about guilt, exploring the ways in which people avoid uncomfortable truths. It’s also quite a silly story about hiding your flatmate’s dead cat because you want to play Scrabble with it. We worked hard to push our budget to the limit so we could be proud of every frame, and were only able to do so because of our talented (and patient) crew. Over half the team were women, continuing our ongoing commitment to gender diversity in film. We were very lucky to have Hugh Bonneville on board. He was generous with his time and didn’t once ask us why we thought he would be an appropriate voice for a deceased feline.
