Robbie Chapman's story is a complex one, and it was important for us to capture all its nuances in the film. The main theme we explore is Robbie's internal struggle of choosing between his duty as a journeyman boxer and his desire to win. While his job is not to win, Robbie's love for the sport and his competitive spirit drive him to give it his all every time he steps into the ring. We were fascinated by this inner battle that Robbie faces and the mental fortitude required to stay committed to his role as a journeyman. We believe that his story is not only relatable to other boxers but to anyone who has faced a similar dilemma in their personal or professional lives. By highlighting Robbie's struggle, we hope to shed light on the challenges that we all face in balancing our responsibilities and our ambitions. For a long time, boxing has been a point of cultural reference from a 'nothing to something' point of view, whereas this film showcases the harsher realities of life.
