I headed to Tihosuco, in the heart of the Yucatan jungle, where the echoes of the Mayan world mix with banda music and the sirens of a Catholic virgin's pilgrimage. My mission was to capture the essence of a Mayan farmer supplying organic crops to the Colibri Boutique Hotels group in Tulum, Mexico. In this remote landscape, I met Don Rufino, a man whose silent perseverance mirrors the resilience of his ancestors. Farming here is not just an occupation; it is a testament to endurance, marked by low yields and relentless environmental challenges. As I observed Don Rufino, I saw a man who understands the land in ways we have forgotten. His hands, weathered by the elements, work silently with a reverence and knowledge that, as he says, might be our last hope when all else fails.
