Shot in Cavan, Ireland with 80% South Asian Irish cast, 'Dress Smart' is a short that addresses relationships between men, with themes of suicide, social stigma, mental health and family dynamics in lone-parent households. I am personally and painfully aware of the growing number of suicides among men in Ireland, many of whom are fathers and from working-class and rural communities. My hope by presenting this movie at your prestigious festivals is to continue the conversation, to interrogate some of the many "whys", and the biases we may hold towards the single-father / single-parent dynamic within the class system.
