Filmmaker Statement

I think a good storyteller always asks the question "who am I to tell this story? " and "why am I entitled to make this film?”. So when I set out to write my first short film I naturally gravitated towards the stories I could tell. And where better to start than with the most important relationship in my life: the one I have with my sisters. The decision to focus on sisterhood naturally led me to the coming-of-age genre. But when I watched through many of my favorite coming of age films, I noticed that the sister relationship often got left by the wayside, eschewed in favor of love and friendship. But for me, one of the most significant shifts I experienced during my teenage years was the realization that my siblings would be with me for the rest of my life (regardless of whether we got along well or not). Through turbulent times it was the formation of that bond that helped me become who I am today. But what does sisterhood - and all its nuances - look like on screen? In ‘Dust
