Filmmaker Statement

After several months of discussing our respective work, Alexis and I decided to collaborate on a film. I had just bought a Bolex and he had just finished his new collection. I took a train to Rennes (where his new studio is located), and we spent several days mostly talking, but also trying to film his paintings from an angle that could suit his approach. The first part seeks to capture the raw creative process; the soul laid bare and expressed directly on the canvas. The second part is more reflective, slower and contemplative, like the second layer of a painting, where instinct gives way to adjustment, and precision emerges from the initial impulse. Influenced by film noir, Alexis’s works draw the viewer into a romanticized world of drama and suspense — as if stepping into a story already in motion. A film shaped like a canvas, for a painter shaped by film. That was the project of our days spent together.
