Exception
When a leaked video of his lecture on the Psychology of Oppression goes viral and sparks accusations of anti-Semitism, tenured Palestinian-American professor Karim Hadawi finds himself at a crossroads with a harrowing ultimatum: issue a public apology to salvage his career or risk losing not only his job but also the custody of his beloved daughter. Filmmaker Statement

“The reason I make films is because I have something to say”. That statement has always been my motto in selecting the projects I want to work on. Upon reading the script of “Exception,” I immediately connected with the story, the characters, and the main themes of integrity, freedom of speech, and the clash between personal convictions and a complex political landscape. In embracing “Exception,” my commitment extends beyond crafting a compelling film; it's a deeply felt artistic and human obligation to align with Karim's journey. It's a call to advocate for the urgent cause of safeguarding freedom in its entirety, particularly the freedom of speech, before it slips into oblivion. Moreover, as a filmmaker with roots in the Middle East, my involvement stands as a humble contribution, aimed at authentically portraying characters from an Arab background - a dedication to fostering genuine representation.
