Filmmaker Statement

Growing up in The Bahamas, I’ve always loved nature, especially the underwater world and flooded cave systems. Grand Bahama is home to one of the longest underwater cave systems in the world, located in Lucayan National Park. These caves are vital to the island’s freshwater supply and ecosystem, yet they remain largely unexplored and underappreciated. As a filmmaker, I aim to blend storytelling with conservation to make environmental education impactful. When I met Cristina, I was fascinated by her work in the cave systems, often overshadowed by media focus on her work with sharks. I knew I wanted to help tell her and Kewin’s story and show how they use art to raise awareness. Through Kewin’s intricate photography and Cristina’s ethereal freediving, the film explores the environmental importance of flooded caves and the power of art in conservation.
