Frequencies is a letter about circumstantial love. We are consistently fed a narrative that love conquers all, but sometimes life gets in the way. I wanted to show a healthy supportive relationship that Lucas couldn't return to because of where life brought him and give him the space to embrace where he is and who he can be with. This doesn't mean he loves his husband Anton any less or that there is any level of betrayal with this new spark. Even without meeting Joe, having a traumatic experience like being marooned might have been enough to shake up his marriage. We don't know what is in store for us around the corner, and deciding to hold on to what's familiar or moving on to a new phase of life is a challenging decision, especially when other people are involved. My hope is that Anton would understand Lucas' choice and have empathy for him being stranded and desperate for human contact.
