Dumps are like cemeteries: they are a perfect source to gain insight into the culture of a given country. Waste characterises us, waste defines us and in Switzerland, we produce too much of it. I felt the need to depict the waste disposal route to make us aware of the huge mass we produce. Millions of people have tried to raise awareness to produce less waste. However, I have never seen anyone attempt this by subverting the idea we have of it, i.e. by making it aesthetic, beautiful. This is Garbage Sonata: the desire to highlight our hypocritical nature towards environmental preservation by giving colour, symphony and life to waste in comparison to a cold, decadent and increasingly dead nature.
