Filmmaker Statement

'Good Grief' strives to cut through the cookie-cutter depictions of young Australian life and be a truthful portrayal of what it looks and feels like to be a 20-something in inner-city Melbourne today. It explores a range of themes that permeate youth culture such as drug use, questions of sexuality and identity, anxiety, and community, but the driving force is through the lens of grief; arguably the most common of human experiences, and one that is seldom discussed in society. I wanted to drive a core message that I found to be true of the grieving experience - which is one of vulnerability, connection and hope. I truly believe that Maggie's story will resonate with audiences of all ages, backgrounds and experiences, showing that it is not only okay to feel through the inevitable waves that come after death, but know that you will survive through them too.
