Filmmaker Statement

Borrowing the phrase from Pedro Almodovar, the film is a ‘screwball tragedy’, presenting a single night in a London bar in which we catch a glimpse into the lives of three different performers. A modern All About Eve that also draws from personal experiences in London's night-life, the film presents a unique intersection of character-driven stories, exploring ideas around labour, gender, art and entertainment. Goodnight Ladies was shot entirely on 16mm film, and has been supported by the Kodak Short Film Fund. While the film industry is currently trying to promote more films that centre marginalised identities, we aspire for the risks in form, genre and character that emerged with the New Queer Cinema movement. We are eager to expand the dramatic range of LGBTQ+ characters in British film, permitting them to lead their lives through a story that has nothing to do with sexuality.
