While watching Robert Altman’s “California Split,” a director I revere and consider an influence in my own work, I was struck by a moment that left me feeling “I don’t think that’s funny.” Not that it had aged poorly, but that it had unknowingly isolated 50% of his audience—-women. Immediately I saw a micro moment that encapsulates the macro experience of what it’s like to live in a woman's body as opposed to a males. This quirky thriller exemplifies the everyday dread of existing in a females body, the fear, the guilt from the fear, and then the question of how to handle transgressions whether they're hArmless or not.
