HOOPTY
In the sleepy towns of Upstate New York, we delve into the world of Ralphie, a plus-sized hitman under the command of Polanco, the flashy, loud and egotistical leader of criminal organization in New York City. Polanco, accompanied by his fiery, much younger girlfriend: Lydia, sets Ralphie on a mission: eliminate Dante, a fellow "associate" within their organization. Dante, a low-level grunt, lives a double life as an aspiring social media influencer, showcasing his criminal exploits online to garner attention. But with many shortcomings, Dante ownership of a HOOPTY is the final straw that turns him into a prime target for his boss, Polanco, whom believes Dante lifestyle demands his demise.

Filmmaker Statement

The inspiration for "Hoopty" sprang from my admiration for early 2000s action comedies crafted by British filmmakers such as Guy Ritchie and Edgar Wright. Movies like "Snatch," "Hot Fuzz," and "Shaun of the Dead" deeply influenced me with their bold visual style and compelling writing, a quality that resonated with me as a director whose career began in music videos. I aimed to craft a visually striking dark comedy infused with elements of absurdity and tension, evoking a sense of unease in the audience. Drawing inspiration from characters in TV shows like "The Sopranos" and "How to Make It in America," I endeavored to craft richly developed characters. "Hoopty" marks my debut as a filmmaker and required over a year to complete.
