For this film, I wanted to experiment with the concept of a protagonist. Instead of following one person’s point of view, I decided to make money the protagonist. The story follows a money trail which makes the audience experience and bear witness to how money affects each person’s life as it travels from one person to the next. People often form an attachment to money. It holds no opinions and has no feelings, but people give it importance and, consequently, money holds power over individuals. The Philippines is very much a cash based society. Money circulates through a rapid exchange of hands, and moves in and out of people’s lives. I wanted to explore how money plays a part in the corruption that is very much part of the status quo in the Philippines. I was curious to observe glimpses of people’s lives, interwoven by their unconscious connection to each other. I also wanted to experiment with narrative structure.
