Filmmaker Statement

Written and directed more as an atmospheric, emotional short film than a music video, "Joists" was made to be open to interpretation. To me, however, it's a metaphor for going through personal loss and repeated attempts to break out of the cycle of suffering. This audiovisual release is full of hints, twists, and hidden messages. "Joists" complements the "Liminal Rain" EP by Subseconds, my music entity, and contributes to its message. Made with a DIY attitude, the video was shot in just one and a half days, and with just one more person involved in video shoot, production, and editing in addition to me. As a massive fan of short films, black-and-white visuals, and surreal, atypical music videos, I am truly excited to contribute to those mediums. This video serves as a reminder to me to own and face my own feelings - both good and bad - instead of running away from them. I'd be deeply grateful if this work finds someone else at the right time and reminds them of something as important.
