The beauty of public access television is that it enables anyone to make a show about anything, and the citizens of Jonathanville, Arkansas have been taking full advantage of this opportunity. Each episode of Jonathanville TV serves as a hilarious highlight reel of a given week’s shows on Jonathanville Public Access (JPA), adding up over the course of each season to tell the larger stories of what’s happening in town. Housing sketch comedy under the umbrella of “things that might appear on a rural public access channel” gives this show a tight focus with endless possibilities. This absurdist narrative sketch show might best be described as Review meets Portlandia for the south. Created with no budget by a group of Chicago comedy folks with southern roots who have since gone on to act in, direct, and write for TV shows and movies available on NBC, Comedy Central, Adult Swim, Netflix, and Amazon Prime.
