Growing up in Indiana, surrounded by nature, it was a shock for me to move to Los Angeles and feel so isolated within the endless concrete and pavement all around me. That first summer in the city, one of the most surprising things to me were the many june bugs you can find flying all around Southern California from June to August, whether you're in the heart of downtown or out of the city on a hike. June bugs are incredibly clumsy flyers, veering this way and that, and their beautiful green coloring immediately caught my eye. How can such a delightful, wild creature thrive in a city like Los Angeles? Junebug is a film about how we're not so different than the animals in nature around us, and how just like animals, we need each other to survive.
